Dr. Joe Schilz is a Physical Therapist, program lead and lead therapist at the Portage Clinic. He has been with New Life since 2020.
He believes the relationship between a physical therapist and the patient is the foundation to success. He enjoys engaging with each individual to learn about not only what hurts or what limits them, but also who they are and why it is important for them to improve. He believes strongly that physical therapy needs to be tailored specifically to the person in front of him and not the body region that is affected. Dr. Joe’s approach to treatment is a collaboration with his patients’ which uses a combination of active movements and hands-on techniques. He is certified in dry needling and is trained in myofascial cupping, each of which assist in improving tissue mobility and decreasing pain levels. He is also trained in blood flow restriction training which provides improved strength gains at lower levels of resistance/workload.
Outside of work, Dr. Joe enjoys time spent with his wife Samantha, their dog Zoey, and with their family and friends. You will likely find him hiking, camping, hunting, attending concerts, or checking out restaurants in the Madison area. He is an avid sports fan and lives for Green Bay Packers gameday.
