Joe Schilz is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and hip pain specialist at our Portage location. He believes the relationship between a physical therapist and the patient is the foundation to success. He enjoys engaging with each individual to learn about not only what hurts or what limits them, but also who they are and why it is important for them to improve. He believes strongly that physical therapy needs to be tailored specifically to the person in front of him and not the body region that is affected. Dr. Joe’s approach to treatment is a collaboration with his patients’ which uses a combination of active movements and hands-on techniques.

I have dealt with pain most of my life but this past winter I developed pain in my low back and hip making it difficult to move or walk. I’ve had chronic foot pain for years and I had been reaching the limit of treatments available. My aunt encouraged me to try PT, and try it with John specifically because he looks at the whole system – hips, legs, everything – instead of just the foot. John has been super helpful and continually challenged me to reach a little more. I’ve definitely seen a difference in my hip strength and flexibility, which in turn has helped my foot. John also gave me exercises I can do on my own moving forward, which has been incredibly beneficial. Thanks John!

I came to New Life PT with pain in my hip that prevented me from doing things I love – walking my dog, working in the yard, biking & doing home projects. Kris was able to give me tools to get me not only back to doing those things, but my hip actually feels better and stronger than it has in a long time. She helped me understand when to stretch versus when to strengthen so I can continue to stay strong & healthy for a long time. I felt like she took the time to understand what was important to me & how I learned & used those things to guide me into helping myself when I was not with her.
